Conversion Tracking Setup
GA4 events you can trust, wired through Google Tag Manager, so you can tell the difference between traffic and inquiries.
What you receive
A Tag Manager container, GA4 key events for the actions that matter to your business, a saved report showing inquiries by source, and a one-page record of what fires when.
What's included
- Google Tag Manager container installed, with versioned changes rather than edits in your theme
- GA4 property checked or created, with retention and reporting identity set sensibly
- Key events for form submissions, phone taps, email clicks, and any booking or checkout step
- Cross-domain setup and referral exclusions where an external booking or payment tool is involved
- One saved report showing inquiries by source, not just sessions
- A one-page written record of what fires when, so anyone can pick it up later
Scope limits
- One website and one GA4 property.
- Ecommerce revenue tracking on a custom stack is scoped separately.
- Ad platform conversion import for Google Ads or Meta is available as an add-on.
- Historical data cannot be backfilled. Tracking starts the day it is installed.
How it works
- Map
Which actions count as an inquiry for your business. Usually fewer than you think.
- Wire
Container installed, events built, existing duplicate tracking removed.
- Test
Every event fired and confirmed in GA4 debug, on mobile as well as desktop.
- Hand over
The report, the written record, and a walkthrough of how to read it.
Questions
Do I really need Tag Manager?
For anything past a page view, yes. It keeps tracking out of your theme, so a site update cannot silently break it and you can see what changed and when.
Will this slow the site down?
Barely, and usually less than what it replaces. What slows sites down is five overlapping tracking scripts nobody has audited in three years.
Can you fix the tracking I already have?
Often that is the job. The first step is finding out what is actually firing, which is rarely what people think.
How do I know the numbers are right?
You watch them fire during the handover. If an event cannot be demonstrated live, it does not count as done.
